Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. He had moved with his parents to Memphis at the age of 13. He was not a good student. He was quiet and many kids thought of him as a "mama's boy." He often times ended up doing talent contests and many people were surprised how such a shy kid became alive when he sang. He started his professional career in 1954 with Sun records. "Heartbreak Hotel" was released in 1956 and became number 1. He had taken a leave of absence from singing in 1958 when he joined the Army. He had won 3 Grammy awards and at the age of 35, Elvis had won the Grammy for the "Lifetime Achievement Award." The very last concert that Elvis did was at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 26, 1977. Footage from this concert was taken, but not widely seen. There is an audio portion that can be heard on a CD called, "The Last Farewell"
The very last recording, "He'll Have to Go," Elvis did was on October 31, 1976.
The very last song that Elvis Presley sang was, Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain." just hours before his death at Graceland. He was singing at the piano when he sang the song. Mr. Presley died on August 16, 1977 from a drug overdose at his home in Memphis, called "Graceland." He is laid to rest there, and people come from around the world to get a glimpse of how the singer lived. In celebration of Elvis's birthday, Edison Pena, went to visit Graceland and sang Elvis songs; the same ones that he sang when he was trapped in the cave in Chili. Elvis Presley is the best selling solo artist in the 20th Century.
