Dick Van Dyke was born on December 13, 1925. He has a brother, Jerry who also is an actor. Dick started his career in Danville, Illinois on radio as a DJ. He later decided to perform comedy and toured the US. He had ended up in New Orleans and got his first gig on TV there. His first network position was on the "Phil Silvers" show that aired 1957-58. Mr Van Dyke actually worked at a CBS affiliate as a TV anchorman while Walter Cronkite was a reporter for the same station.
The Dick Van Dyke Show was launched on 1961 and aired until 1966. It starred, Rose Marie, Morley and Mary Tyler Moore and Carl Reiner. The show was a huge success. Dick Van Dyke won 3 Emmy awards for playing an "outstanding leading actor in a comedy series." Van Dyke also was in the feature films,"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," and "By By Birdie (1963)." He also worked with Carol Burnett on her variety show in 1977. This was after Harvey Korman decided to no longer be on the show. He only lasted 3 months on the variety show. He also has a star on the, "Hollywood Walk of Fame"
What many people probably don't know is that Mr Van Dyke is a techie. He still is a computer animation enthusiast and he produces 3-D computer graphics. He also is still acting. Most recently he was in a play, but it did not survive. Nothing stops this guy!
