The 53rd Annual Grammy awards took place on Sunday, February 13 at 8 pm EDT on CBS from the Staples Center  in Los Angeles, California.  Hip hop artist, Eminem topped the list with with getting 10 nominations, but only won 2.  Bruno Mars is second with 7 nominees and won 1,  Lady Gaga, Jay Z and Lady Antebellum all had 6 nominations, and Ms Gaga won 2 and Lady Antelbellum won 4.
Lady Gaga who showed up on stage inside of an egg and sang her new single, Born this Way.  Jennifer Hudson  did a tribute to the  Lady of Soul, Aretha Franklin and looked terrific.  Barbra Streisand performed a song, and Mick Jagger did a fantastic job singing.  He was on the stage a very long time, but kept the audience alive.  This was the first time Mr. Jagger ever performed at a Grammy awards show.
As for Eminem's album, Recovery was released on June 18, 2010 and it won best Hip hop album.  It took a year to do it and has been worked on by several producers.  The album came in number one on Billboard Magazines top 200 list by selling 741,000 copies the very first week it was released.  The album has sold 5.7 million copies around the world to date. It was the second best selling album for 2010.
Katy Perry's performance was the most enjoyable. It was up, very colorful, and the setting was most imaginative.  It also paid homage to Valentine's day. Justin Bieber did not win for the best new artist.
The show was a little bit of a spectacle with costumes becoming more extreme. Sometimes you wonder if you were watching a circus rather than a Grammy show. It would be nice if the attention was based around the music rather than the ridiculous outfits.  What happened to the good old days when people looked elegant and tried to look their best at an award show?
